A little about our school

Torquay is a wonderful place where children grow and learn!  We are a Kindergarten through Grade 5 elementary school, situated in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Gordon Head. We are near beaches, mountains and large grassy fields that we take full advantage of for out of class learning and field trips.

At Torquay, we place an emphasis on student centered learning, inclusion of all, high standards of achievement and a collaborative environment.  We have a diverse multi-cultural school population which includes approximately 20% of our students as English Language Learners (ELL).  This group is comprised of students considered permanent residents, international, refugee and whose parents are in Canada on study or work permits.  While we have a small Indigenous population of  approximately 3%, we honor the Indigenousl ways of knowing and doing by weaving much of this knowledge and history  into our daily lessons and learning.

We offer a variety of opportunities for our students in terms of academics, enrichment, extra-curricular and leadership.  Programs such as Music and Strings,  Reading Recovery, Choir, Library Skills, Athletics, Technology and ELL figure prominently and support all domains of our learners. All our classrooms are equipped with technology to enhance student learning. We have mobile technology devices for students to access to stretch and share their learning. There is a strong sense of community involvement and parents are welcomed into our school to share their skills and expertise.

Please phone the school directly if you have any specific questions.
